It's been a quiet start to the year on the track, with not many jumpers ready to race we have only had a handful of runners. Most have run well enough but I am still looking for the first winner of the year, times like this are really frustrating as everyone wants winners, no one more than me. That being said the yard’s strike rate over jumps this season remains at a healthy 16% winners to runners. The horses seem well and are going nicely so I know our luck will change soon. Uno Valoroso and Veroce run at the end of the week, hopefully one or both of them will get in the winner’s enclosure.

The flat horses are coming on nicely and with the biggest string I have had since I started training I am really looking forward to the season ahead, there are a few old favourites like Woody Bay, Cornborough, Adam’s Ale and Kodicil who are sure to win races and a host of really nice young horses as well.

One horse I am really excited about is Lackaday, we claimed him from a race at Southwell last month, it was a bit of a risk as we had no owners at the time but the horse ticked all the right boxes. I am pleased to say we now have owners for him in the shape of the "Champagne Charlie's Racing Club". This is a newly formed partnership, their current members include star rugby league players Luke Gale, Danny McGuire and now retired Jamie Peacock MBE. The CCRC have a very organised approach but most of all, having met some of thier members it’s clear to see that they are in it for the fun and I'm sure everyone involved will really enjoy being part of it. Lackaday is on track to be their first ever runner next month, hopefully it will be a winning start!!
