After a quiet start to 2019 things are starting to look up as the horses are running well again.

Last week saw Carlovian win at Nottingham under a good front running ride from Dougie Costello. It was the fifth win for him and his owners Profit Pony Racing.  'Carl', as we know him, has been a great horse since he came to us - he is regular runner and we can always rely on him for a win or two each season. Last year he ran 18 times winning twice, he has now won a healthy 25k in prize money. Below is a picture of him at Nottingham.

Saturday was a really busy day for us, we had three runners at Hexham, one at York and one at Chester. At Hexham Miss Charlton and Donna's Dream both ran nicely finishing 3rd, Miss Amelia was a touch disappointing finishing 5th, she has had a long season and is now enjoying a break away from the yard. She is pictured (left) with Diablo Dancer who is in foal to Bungle Inthejungle.

Bit of a Quirke ran a great race to finish 2nd at Chester, with a bit of luck I'm sure he would have won as he got boxed in coming round the last bend, hard luck stories are far from uncommon at Chester so when you take a horse there you know there is always a the chance things won't go your way. Bit of a Quirke won 4 times last year and it looks as though his first win of this year is not far away.

I was at York where Magical Max won on debut. We have always thought a lot of him, so much so, that in January I entered him for a £150,000 race at Newmarket that is run in October. That said I was not expecting him to win first time although I was hopeful of a good run as he passed his lead horse very easily when working on the grass at Malton gallops. He has come out of the race well and will be out again in July. Below is a picture of him after he did his first bit of work in February, it was from then we started to become quite confident he was a decent horse.

We always have an eye to the future and we have started a small breeding operation, we have found it increasingly difficult to buy horses on a tight budget so we are trying to breed our next superstar!! Here are a few of our broodmares with their foals. Left to right, Bright Cloud with her filly Westerner filly, Zefooha with her Mukhadram colt and Gaspara with her Jack Hobbs colt.
